although nearly three quarters of the earth＇s surface is covered with water, it is sea water and undrinkable. the demand for water is increasing, while water resources are scarce. agricultural production needs enormous amounts of water, so does industry. besides,the rapid growth of population makes it more and more difficult for people to survive because of the water shortage. so water shortage has become one of the most serious problems.

fortunately, people have realized this pressing problem and are trying to find ways to salve it. first, people are urged to economize on water. second, measures are taken to protect water resources. third, circulating water is used for industrial purposes over and over in factovies and treated sewage water is used for irrigation in farming land.

地球其实是一颗美丽的蓝色星球，这蓝色就是水，地球还有一个别名叫“水球”，顾名思义，我们居住的地球是一颗水的星球。据调查，我们的地球上有70.8％的水，这么多水，海水就占了97％，陆地上的水，面积仅占0.017％，又有一半在内海和盐湖之中。淡水的根本来源是雨露，每49年落到陆地上的水只有10.5万平方米，而这其中的三分之二又被植物吸收或蒸发掉，只有三分之一，也就是3.75万立方米的水可供人类使用。

这么少的水，为什么人类还要去浪费？为什么看到水龙头里还“哗哗”流着水还视而不见？为什么浴缸里明明放满了水还开着水龙头？为什么开着洗菜的水就去接电话？为什么我们就不愿动动我们的双手？为什么要让我们的财富渐渐流失？难道真的等到世界上最后一滴水是人类的眼泪时才去拯救吗？那不就太晚了吗？

尽管现在有很多节水产品，但是最重要的还得靠我们——不浪费、不污染水资源，这样才能更好的保护我们的地球。

水是生命不可缺少的东西。没有水，就没有生命;就连滔滔江水也会变成沙漠；植物也无法生长；太阳会膨胀；宇宙会灭亡。

这一则幽默的小故事告诉我们：我们应该更好地保护环境，珍惜资源，不能让世界上所有的低级动物嘲笑我们，我们应该比其它动物做得更好。

有些人说：“哎呀，保护环境算什么？珍惜资源又算什么？自己开心就可以了，不管它什么保护环境还是珍惜资源，以后就没有让自己随意的机会了！”但是，有没有人想过，如果世界上没有了树，我们怎么生存？我们将会被沙尘暴所侵害，世界上将没有了绿色的生命，地球将被沙漠所覆盖，变得一团遭。那将会多可怕呀！

如果世界上所有人都保护环境，那么，世界将多美好呀！我们回过头来想一想，语文书第15课课文都明确地告诉了我们，降临在大地上的事终究会降临在人类身上。我们也学过这样两条名言：保护地球就是保护自己；拯救地球就是拯救未来。是呀，如果植物消失了，动物们也无法生存，我们不能移居到其它星球，不过，如果我们好好保护环境，就不需要移居到其它星球了。其实，只要我们换一种方式生活，就可以让植物永存人间，我们人类也会享受到植物带给我们的好处。

人类呀，快醒醒吧！让我们保护环境，让地球母亲好好地生存下去吧！
